Introduction

On average, a division one National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) football team brings in a revenue of 32 million to the university per year. On average a student athlete spends twenty hours a week practicing their sport. As well as practicing the sport of their choice, they also spend six hours a day every week day on school work. This adds up to 50 hours a week. To be considered a full time worker in the United States you need to work 40 hours a week. Unlike a full time worker, college athletes do not make any money off the effort they put onto the field and also their classes. These students devote their whole lives to the sport and university, missing regular school breaks, not being able to go home for the holidays, traveling, making school work harder, and most importantly risking their health by giving this sport there all to get what in return? With the rules of the NCAA, they make it impossible for the student athletes to legally endorse themselves to make a profit.  These students who do everything in their power to have a chance to get good enough grades to play for the school, sacrifice their social lives for the school, and their energy, just to get less than 5% of what they bring in to the school, in money they can’t even spend. College athletes deserve to be paid for their contributions to one school because of the revenue they bring in, the time and effort they put into it, and the global recognition it brings for the school.
